My Inspiration
A love of words
I’ve always loved old dictionaries. The big, old, heavy ones that need momentum to hoist open, smell of rusty nails, creaking and cracking alive as you open it.
I love their weight created from thousands and thousands sprawled across the pages. I love the indented, spaced string of alphabets - A to Z - running along its edges encouraging me to search for one tiny word to capture its pronunciation, context, and word class.
I own several vintage dictionaries, bought delightfully over the years from used bookstores around the country. They are carefully placed in bookshelves and table tops adding whimsy and joy to my sacred spaces.
So many words to choose from - some we still use, others long forgotten. Yep, I’m a word nerd!
But over time and life experiences … as my pursuit for knowledge shifted into the pursuit for happiness, and now evolved into the pursuit for purpose … I have discovered the words we choose to use, define, and carry with us on this journey have real power.
I believe meaningful grace, growth, and grounding starts with the words we speak to ourselves with - and the words we assign to others. They can harm or honor. They can defeat or celebrate. They can dampen or enlighten.
Define Inspirations springs forth from my unwavering respect for the powerful meaning within words, the significant weight they carry, and the creative opportunity they offer to bring us closer to our authenticity and inner truth.
Happy Inspirations!
